This is me today, running on the track. I intend to run 400 meter intervals for the month of August to improve my cadence and stride length before the Boulder Marathon at the end of September. I ran 4x400s today and I’ll add one more interval each Sunday until I reach 8, which is what I used to run in college, 8x400s.
This was me on the track in college, forty years ago. I don’t expect my stride length to get to where it was then, but a boy can dream.

Love the throwback tank top you are wearing in today’s picture. Your school has a different name today, right, so that tank is definitely a classic

It was hard to find this SWT shirt because of the name change from Southwest Texas State to Texas State, but it’s fun to wear it. I wore my Texas State sweatshirt to the Colorado Marathon and two other runners commented on it. One guy played football for Texas State and the other had a daughter-in-law graduate from there.

It will always be Southwest Texas State to me. The football movie “Necessary Roughness” was at that school. It was made in 1992 so the school was Texas State, but for me it has always been and always will be Southwest Texas State, even to the extent that in my mind, I remember the school in the movie as SWT. When I looked it up today on IMDb I was surprised to see Scott Bakula wearing a green Texas State jersey. Must be because when I was at University, 81-86 it was SWT.

Hilarious. I’d never heard of that movie. That school was fictional at the time. They dropped SW from the name much more recently. And green isn’t their color. Just watched the trailer. I was there ‘80 to ‘84.

Like swimmers and cyclists, you should shave to reduce wind resistance. And improve appearance. And not get kicked out of convenience stores.

I’m purposely adding wind resistance to increase my work load. I’ll shave for the big race.

I believe you made an earlier post about waxing your chest and . . . other places. I’m just trying to understand.

Right. If I’m being serious, and I rarely am, I don’t think runners face the same impact from wind resistance as athletes in other sports. But I am trusting in the advice that body hair mitigates the effects of sweat evaporation. I’ve waxed my legs 4 times now and it still grows back like a weed, so it’s kind of expensive. I’m hoping it stops growing back. If I see that to be the case, I might start waxing my face.
