Not too many photos of me in a hot tub out there online. The Rec Center hot tub opened today after a long closure, and it was empty except for me because most of the pools are still closed. I’d been wanting it to treat my tendinopathy, and now I have it.
I also ran today for the first time in 3 weeks. I probably should have only run 3 miles, but I was feeling good and ran 6. I could feel the injury but don’t think I stressed it. Hope my PT isn’t upset if I stretch his returning-to-running protocol a bit. I’ve been great at performing his strength protocol – 4 times so far. The routines below are intended to strengthen the muscles around the gluteus medius tendon. My poor balance was embarrassing.
| Exercise | Prescription | Main purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Kettlebell Romanian deadlift | 3 × 8 | Posterior-chain and hip loading |
| Hip bridge | 2 × 12 | Glute activation/strength |
| Side-lying hip abduction | 2 × 12, explicitly without a band | Direct hip-abductor loading |
| Single-leg balance | 3 × 30 seconds | Balance and hip stability |
| Goblet squat | 3 × 12 at 20 lb, or weight selected as tolerated | Functional leg and hip strength |
| Standing fire hydrant | 2 × 12 | Gluteal strength and single-leg control |
Eric attempted another 100 miler in Steamboat this week – Run Rabbit, Run. The name refers to the Rabbit Ears geology feature in the region. Eric won the tortoises division about 4 years ago.
He had 3 friends there running too. His goal was to see what the miles felt like after such a recent ultra, to prep for running a 200 miler.
Run Rabbit, Run starts immediately up a steep ski hill. Sort of to be expected in Colorado. That’s Eric in the red hat.
Eric dropped after 50 miles. He’d discovered what it feels like to run past 100 so quickly.
My weekend is mostly about painting Karen’s office. I finished the ceiling today and will do the walls Sunday. I tried to pull the sports injury card but Karen wasn’t having it after I ran 6 miles and went to the rec center.
