Margot spent the night and gave me a Father’s Day card in the morning. As soon as her mother picked her up, I was out the door for my Saturday 20 mile ritual. But I didn’t have to worry about the heat. The entire run was in the 70s. It’s been in the 90s all week and this felt like heaven. I ran a 9:30 pace, really most of it under that, the cool air was so nice. Makes a difference.

It’ll be in the 90s pretty much every day between now and race day – August 15th. I’ll be in Europe for a week and Vegas for nearly a week before then – both places hot as hell. I should be acclimated. I ran 10 miles Wednesday in 90° at a 9:20 pace, so maybe I’m already acclimated.
Never one to leave anything to chance, I’ve schedule a waxing appointment 2 weeks before the marathon. Maybe it’s hype but I feel it helps me deal with heat. The concept is that sweat evaporates more readily on hairless skin. Whether or not that’s true, it sort of makes me feel like an elite athlete. It’s all about the vibes.
